Professional Biography
Dr. Gonsalves is a physiatrist, also known as a doctor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She treats acute and chronic pain and musculoskeletal disorders including arthritis, osteoporosis, tendonitis, carpal tunnel and other peripheral neuropathies, neck and back pain, and work or sports related injuries. She also sees patients at rehabilitation facilities with various medical problems including spinal cord injuries, stroke and other neurological disorders, brain injuries, amputations, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, and general functinal decline after prolonged illness. She does Botox injections to alleviate spasticity related to neurologic disorders and also performs Nerve Conduction Studies and EMGs. She has an interest in alternative medical treatment and has studied Ayurvedic medicine in India and is currently training in acupuncture at the University of Miami and will begin incorporating this treatment soon. She did her residency training in New York City in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York Presbyterian Hospital, the University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell. She received her undergraduate degree Magna cum Laude in Biology and Psychology from Wellesley College and her medical degree from the University of Connecticut with Honors in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine. She is the Director of Rehabilitation at Atlantic Healthcare Center in Vero Beach. She is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Indian River County Medical Society.
Personal Biography
Dr. Gonsalves enjoys travelling and has recently travelled to Chile where she
toured the Andes mountains and the vineyards. She has travelled to multiple
countries in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. After completing her residency,
she received a fellowship to learn about Ayurveda, the system of traditional
alternative medicine in India and also learned about Tibetan medicine. She
recently volunteered in Port au Prince, Haiti through a nonprofit organization,
the Haiti Clinic, to provide free medical care. She enjoys bicycling, hiking,
scuba diving, snorkelling, reading, attending theatre and cultural events, and
walking on the beautiful local beaches.
